Biography

Aaron has evolved from a promising young talent at Institute, through a challenging stint at Tottenham Hotspur, to becoming a key figure at Shamrock Rovers. After his release from Tottenham, where Tim Sherwood likened him to “a young Roy Keane,” McEneff returned to Ireland, signing with Derry City. His time at Derry saw a period of adaptation and growth, overcoming initial inconsistencies to become a vital player, highlighted by his performances and goal-scoring in the League of Ireland and Europa League qualifiers. His progress and development at Derry laid the foundation for his subsequent move to Shamrock Rovers in November 2018.

At Rovers, McEneff quickly established himself as an integral part of the team, contributing significantly to their successes. In his debut season, he played a pivotal role in Rovers clinching the FAI Cup, scoring a penalty in the final. The following season, McEneff and his teammates secured the League of Ireland title, marking Rovers’ 18th league triumph. He moved on in January 2021 initially to Heart of Midlothian in Scotland and then Perth Glory in Australia, before making a notable return to Shamrock Rovers in January 2024 on a loan deal set to become permanent.
